A Unique Program      Judson College has many unique traditions with our neighbors, Marion Military Instiute (MMI) - one of only five Military Junior Colleges in the U.S. offering unique military training programs - and the two institutions continue today to nurture a special relationship.  It's no surprise then, that Judson and MMI have joined together to offer a unique program especially for students interested in Army ROTC while enrolled at Judson. MMI serves as the ROTC Department for Judson College.

How It Works      An Army ROTC student attending Judson College will face all of the same requirements for admission as a traditional student. Army ROTC students, however, will attend regular academic classes at Judson College AND ROTC classes - such as Military Science - at MMI, less than 10 blocks from the Judson campus. ROTC students may choose from Judson's list of academic majors and minors list when deciding on their course of study.

The Army ROTC program at Judson is a four-year program that will allow a college student to earn a commission as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army.

The Benefits      If awarded a four-year Army ROTC scholarship to Judson College under the student-elected "tuition" option, then the Army ROTC will pay the students' tuition for four years (costs for boarding are not included), provide her with a $600 per semester book stipend and a monthly cadet stipend - which increases the longer she remains enrolled in college.

An Army ROTC scholarship to attend Judson is valued at $68,800. All Army ROTC scholarships come with an eight year commitment to the Army, which can be served on active-duty or in the Army Reserves or Army National Guard.

Just Army ROTC      Founded in 1916, Army ROTC remains the broadest avenue for men and women seeking to serve as officers in America's Army.  Army ROTC can offer a student a four, three or two year Army ROTC scholarship. To be a member of the ROTC and qualify for scholarships, a student must:

  • Have a GPA of at least 2.5
  • Have an ACT of 19 or SAT of 920
  • Be willing to sign an ROTC contract and accept a commission as an officer in the U.S. Army
  • Be a U.S. Citizen
  • Be a high school graduate or have a GED
  • Pass an Army PT test
  • Have no legal issues

Army ROTC scholarships also provide monthly living allowances for each school year.  You can earn certain amounts depending on your level in the Army ROTC curriculum:

1st year  -     $300 per month
2nd year -     $350 per month
3rd year  -     $450 per month
4th year  -     $500 per month

Judson & Yellow Ribbon

Judson College is proud to be listed as a "Yellow Ribbon School" as part of the Yellow Ribbon Program.

What is Yellow Ribbon    The Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program (Yellow Ribbon Program) is a provision of the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008.  This program allows institutions of higher learning (degree granting institutions) in the United States to voluntarily enter into an agreement with VA to fund tuition expenses that exceed the highest public in-state undergraduate tuition rate.  The institution can contribute up to 50% of those expenses and VA will match the same amount as the institution.

Judson can contribute up to $2,600 per student, per year. A student must meet eligibility requirements first.

Eligibility for Yellow Ribbon   A student must first meet certain requirements before qualifying for Yellow Ribbon Assistance. Only individuals entitled to the maximum benefit rate may receive this funding. You may be eligible if:

  • You served an aggregate period of active duty after September 10, 2001, of at least 36 months;
  • You were honorably discharged from active duty for a service connected disability and you served 30 continuous days after September 10, 2001;
  • You are a dependent eligible for Transfer Entitlement under the Post-9/11 GI Bill based on a veteran's service under the eligibility criteria listed above.

To determine your eligibility, you should contact the Department of Veterans Affairs. Once eligibility has been determined, you may present the appropriate documentation to your Admissions Representative, who will begin the next necessary steps for acceptance to Judson College.
