Freshman Biology Majors: What to Expect

In your first semester at Judson as a biology major, you will enroll in the following courses:

BIO 104 – Foundations of Biology (4 hours)

CHE 101 – General Chemistry I (4 hours) (You must place into MAT 111 on the Math placement test in order to take Chemistry your first year.)

ENG 101 – English Composition I (3 hours)

MAT 1xx – An appropriate math course.  (3 hours) The specific course depends on your placement test score.

JUD 101 – Foundations for Success (1 hour)

Choose one of the following required GEC courses:
REL 101 – Introduction to the Old Testament (3 hours)
HIS 103 – World History I (3 hours)
HIS 104 – World History II (3 hours)


In your second semester, you will enroll in the following courses:

BIO 108 – Introductory Molecular Biology (2 hours)

CHE 103 – General Chemistry II (5 hours)

ENG 102 – English Composition II (3 hours)

Choose from the following courses:
BIO 105 – Botany (4 hours) – Counts toward your 36 Biology Major Hours
MAT 1xx – The next Math course in the series (3 hours)
ENG 104 – Public Speaking (3 hours) – Required GEC course
HIS 103 – World History I (3 hours) – Required GEC course
HIS 104 – World History II (3 hours) – Required GEC course
REL 102 – Intro to the New Testament (3 hours) – Required GEC course
BIO 121 – Medical Terminology (1 hour) – Counts toward your 36 Biology Major Hours
