Pre-Dental

Required courses for admission to the UAB School of Dentistry are outlined in bold below. The courses listed are Judson courses that will fulfill those requirements and recommendations.

  • General Biology with Lab (12 hours)
  • BIO 104 – Principles of Biology (4 hours)Recommended Courses:
    *CHE/BIO 307 & 308 – Biochemistry I & II (4 hours each)
    BIO 312 – Cell Biology (3 hours)
    BIO 205 – Human Anatomy (4 hours)
    BIO 206 – Human Physiology (4 hours)
    BIO 304 – Microbiology (4 hours)
    BIO 404 – Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy (4 hours)

  • CHE 101 – General Chemistry I with Lab (4 hours)
    CHE 103 – General Chemistry II with Lab (5 hours)
  • CHE 201 – Organic Chemistry I with Lab (5 hours)
    CHE 202 – Organic Chemistry II with Lab (5 hours)
  • PHY 201 – General Physics I with Lab (4 hours)
    PHY 202 – General Physics II with Lab (4 hours)
  • Mathematics (6 hours)Recommended:
    MAT 151 – Calculus I (3 hours)
    MAT 161 – Calculus II (3 hours) or higher

Courses to enhance manual dexterity are recommended. These include ART 203 – Painting I (3 hours) and/or ART 204 – Sculpture I (3 hours)

Physical education, military science, and similar courses are not acceptable as part of the minimum non-science requirements.

Other Requirements:

Each applicant is required to participate in the Dental Admission Testing Program conducted by the Council on Dental Education of the American Dental Association and to request that test results be sent to the Admissions Committee.

A minimum of three academic years of study (90 semester hours or equivalent) is required at a college or university accredited by one of the regional accrediting bodies recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
