Pre-Veterinary Medicine

The courses required for admission into veterinary school at Auburn University are as follows:

  • ENG 101 – English Composition I (3 hours)
    ENG 102 – English Composition II (3 hours)
  • Humanities and Fine Arts (12 hours)
    Literature (3 hours)
    Fine Arts (3  hours)
    Humanities/fine arts electives (6 hours)
    (In addition to literature, disciplines in the humanities include [but are not limited to] philosophy, religious studies, speech, and foreign languages. Fine arts courses should emphasize history and appreciation rather than performance. Courses include art, music, theater, and dance.)
  • History, Social, Behavioral Science (12 hours)
    HIS 103 or 104 – World History I or II* (3 hours)
    Social/behavioral science electives (9 hours)
    (Disciplines include (but are not limited to) anthropology, economics, geography, political science, psychology and sociology.)
  • MAT 121 – Precalculus Trigonometry or higher (3 hours)
  • Biological and Physical Sciences (42 hours)
    BIO 104 – Principles of Biology I with lab (4 hours)

*Students must complete a 6 semester hour sequence either in literature or in history.
**For students submitting applications prior to October 1, 2014, four additional hours of physics may be substituted for the cell biology requirement.

It is strongly recommended that all applicants complete the Bachelor of Science Degree. However, an applicant that has completed 100 semester hours or 150-quarter hours may be accepted into the college.

The Tuskegee University School of Veterinary Medicine (TUSVM) professional curriculum is a rigorous four-year program. Therefore an applicant’s final grade for each required course must be a “C” or better. Students are required to take the General Aptitude portion of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). Additionally, there is a mandatory interview with the TUSVM Admissions Committee before admission into the school is granted.
