This is Goodbye...

I can’t believe that it is finally over. My time at good ole’ JC has come to a close. I must say that I am sad, but I must also say that I am happy. I have a bachelors degree. I can now boast that I am a graduate of the best college in the state of Alabama!

For me, Judson was a starting point....

The Gift of Spring Break

I finally understand and appreciate the value of Spring Break. I want to inform all of you students out there that think that the week is about giving you a break that you are wrong. :) Of course you enjoy your time away from school. Yes, you will have fun at the beach and love sleeping in until lunch....

JDAY!

Good ole JC. You are always on my mind. I find myself missing my sisters often. When I began missing them the most JDay weekend arrived. JDay is alumni weekend at Judson College. It is a special weekend designated for class reunions, business meetings, and reminiscing of the glory days.

When JDay came around this year, I was ecstatic....

More to Learn

I have now had a few weeks to adjust to the life of a busy high school teacher. WOW! I am tired. I have developed relationships with my students and my coworkers. I have almost remembered my passcode for the copy machine (sad right? sometimes I stand in front of that little machine and it laughs at me because I cannot remember how to make it start)....

Ten things I now KNOW

I have been a teacher for TWO full weeks and I am officially tired. I know for sure that I have to learn how to manage my time. Planning period is a wonderful gift. I just need to figure out how to grade papers and plan lessons as effectively as possible during that time. I was trained to be a teacher and I was trained well, but there are a few things that just didn’t sink in until I was thrown into the middle of it....

The past 10 days have been a whirlwind.

Last Friday I applied for a job at Daphne High School. I applied for a temporary English teaching position. When I saw the posting online, I decided to apply but hardly thought that I would get the job. Little did I know, I would get a call the following Tuesday for an interview....

Two Weeks In

Well, it seems that we are two weeks into our trip. We have done many different things the past 14 days. In our first week we went to villages, we played with kids in muddy streets, we met with young girls that have been forced to provide for themselves at a young age using whatever means possible....

Last night was a late night. I fell asleep at about eleven. (That is a good time to go to sleep right? Well not last night; I had far too much to do to go to sleep so early.)

Well I woke up at about 2 am. I jumped up out of bed and put myself in “high gear.”

By 5 am I had completed everything and I was ready to go to bed....

I want to be a teacher! It is that simple. I want to teach, and I want to minister to young people through teaching .What is not simple about that is finding a job. Yes a J-O-B! Because the school year starts in August, unless someone retires or has to take maternity leave there should be no openings....

Pageant took place this weekend. It was my very last pageant as a Judson student.

This tradition has come to be one of my favorites at Judson. It is such a great opportunity for the Sisterhood to be strengthened.

Thats right I just said I love that there aren’t any boy students at Judson. When people ask me why I chose to go to an all girls school, I respond “Honestly? “What they don’t understand about birthdays and what they never tell you is that when you are eleven, you’re eleven, you’re also ten, and nine, and eight, and seven, and six, and five, and four, and three, and two, and one.”

Aren’t these words from Sandra Cisneros’ story “Eleven” true?

Spring break is over, and I think that I miss it already. I love being on campus at Judson, I enjoy hanging out with my friends and, yes….. I will dare say that I even enjoy going to class. But there is just something about the spring air and those awful mid-term exams that makes students, especially me, crave the break....

How to be a successful transfer student......

The spring semester of a student’s sophomore year is exciting at a community college. This time of year can also be slightly scary and maybe a little bit exhausting. In the spring of 2008, just as in my senior year in high school, I had to begin searching for a college to attend. Of course there were tons of options, but I was searching for a school that would fit me perfectly....

We had our first tennis match on Monday. I know that I mentioned in a previous blog that we should have already had our first match, but sadly that match was cancelled. I hate to say it but we lost the match today.

In my last blog when I said “a little snow” it was certainly an understatement! I can honestly say that I was in Washington, DC. for the Blizzard of 2009. When I woke up Saturday, I was extremely disappointed to find that DC. was completely shut down. The Smithsonian Museums were closed and so was the Metro that we needed to get to Arlington Cemetery....

Christmas Tea and Vespers took place this weekend. I had a lot of fun dressing up with my friends and going to Christmas Tea. Several of us got together and put our make-up on and helped fix each others hair before we headed down to the Parlors.
