We had pop-in night tonight at Judson. This is an event that everyone looks forward to each year. All of our Judson families dress up and pop into the freshmen’s rooms. I am a member of the duck family. My three little sisters and I dressed up as gangsters. It was quite a funny experience. We did our best to look the part. Some of us made better gangsters than others, but overall it was a lot of fun. We went into most of the freshmen’s rooms and they gave us candy. Pop-in night is a good way for the freshmen to meet the different families on campus and to actually figure out who belongs to what group.  Last year, my big sister, my twin, her little sisters, and I dressed as the Cat in the Hat. This year there were so many different costume themes. One of the families dressed as the Seven Deadly Sins. Another family dressed as Crayons. I laughed really hard when I saw the family dressed as Rock, Paper, and Scissors. The ladies here are so creative! We had a lot of fun tonight, and of course we took tons of pictures.

I know that the last few blogs I have written have at least mentioned Hockey Day, but that is because I am so excited about it. We had a meeting about Wishing Well this week. If you don’t remember what wishing well is or if you didn’t read my blog that explains Wishing Well, shame on you. No just kidding! Allow me to explain, Wishing Well is a play that the third year students put on reminiscing about their years at Judson. All of the third year students came together last night to discuss the events that we thought were important for our Wishing Well. We sat in the Auditorium for over an hour and laughed and laughed discussing the crazy things that have happened over the past three years. I really enjoyed listening to my sisters tell their stories. I got to hear about events that took place during freshmen year, before I transferred to Judson. It was funny to see someone tell their story and then laugh extremely hard! Some of us couldn’t even make it through the whole story before we burst into laughter.  It is going to be a lot of fun to re-enact these hilarious events!

By the way… I am seriously considering being the goalie for Hockey Day. I can’t run with this big boot on my foot, but I think I could manage goalie. I will have to consider it more and let you know what I decide!

Last night the volleyball team had senior night. My friend Lauretta, a volleyball player, invited me to come over to the game! The team played Hiwassee College. They won three games in a row, so they won the Set! I was really excited for the girls! I know that Lanie and Amber, the seniors that were honored, must have been happy that they won. Way to go Lady Eagles! There were tons of students at the game. The bleachers were pretty full. Some MMI cadets even came to the game.

We had KDE (Kappa Delta Epsilon) initiation this week. I was super excited because we have eight new members. We also selected officers for the upcoming year. I will be President again for at least the Fall semester. I am looking forward to our upcoming events. On Oct 30th we will have a table for Treats on Bibb Street. This is a Judson Service Learning Project. Many of the clubs on campus set up tables for the children of Marion to explore. Most of the clubs prepare games and give out candy or other fun items. Our table will have an “Old School” theme. Each of the members of KDE will dress like “old school” teachers. I think it will be a lot of fun. I will need to borrow a vest from my mom, who happens to be a teacher! We will be giving away school supplies. I heard that the Science Club/Tri Beta (Science Honor Society) will be making slime with the kids that visit their table. It should be an interesting night!

Last night there was a meteor shower. I was eager to see shooting stars so I went out to the hockey field along with my roommate and a few other girls, at about 1:30 am. We found a lovely piece of concrete to sit on and looked at the sky. I read prior to going outside that you must wait fifteen minutes for your eyes to adjust to fully begin to see the meteors. Well, we waited and we waited, and we didn’t see any for a long time. Finally, I saw something and so did my friend Kelly. We were so excited! Turns out we saw a bird flying across the sky. Yea, we felt DUMB! I guess Judson College has some pretty active night birds. We kept seeing them flying around. Chelsea, another friend that came along, decided that we needed to nickname our dear bird friend. I named him Frazier. After about thirty minutes of looking at the sky, I saw a grand total of about 3 shooting stars! We decided to go inside because we were freezing and disappointed. Thus, ending our Meteor adventure! Silly story, but oh so very much fun!

I just got back from our Concert/Lecture event for the semester. This is an event that offers Judson girls the opportunity to experience interesting events of culture. Last year, the Alabama Symphony came to Judson to perform. Tonight a Tango band performed. The band played songs and a couple danced along with the music.  It was pretty cool. Some of the MMI cadets and a few Judson girls practiced a dance and performed along with the Band for one of the songs. They did so well.

Right now I am exhausted. I know in my last blog I said that I like writing papers but right now I am sick of writing. Today I turned in a 9 page essay test and a 10 page paper. Each of these lovely assignments were for my British Literature class. I waited entirely too long to start my paper, and I ended up having to stay up until at least three every night this week in order to finish on time. Last night I planned to pull an all nighter, (note to reader… Don’t do this to yourself) but I accidently fell asleep. I woke up this morning in a panic. I went to my morning classes and then headed back to my room to write. I finished on time and I have not felt that much relief in a long time! Tomorrow I have to begin on my papers that are due next week. I have to write two. I also have two tests. It seems that my semester is in full swing. I think that if I put together all of the papers and essays that I write each semester I would have a decent size book by the time I graduate.

I went to the doctor about my foot. I was happy to find out that I don’t have a stress fracture, but I do have peroneal tendonitis. That doctor gave me a walking boot to wear for a month. I hope that it gets better quickly. I want to start running again soon. I am super sad that I don’t get to play field hockey on Hockey Day. But I am looking forward to Wishing Well, when the senior class reminisces about their years at Judson in a play format. My Judson big sister is coming; I cannot wait to see her.

Last week was a whirlwind of activities. Pageant is filled with making memories and traditions. The Junior-soph class did a wonderful job with their musical “Into the Woods.” I was so proud of my little sisters. Audra was so funny as the wolf. Brittany was a great horse; I couldn’t help but laugh as she galloped onto the stage. Ashley did a fantastic job as Mystery man, all of her lines rhymed. Pageant is such a huge event on campus. My mom even made the three and a half hour drive from my home to see the play.

After pageant festivities, it was time to prepare for mid terms. I love being an English major - most of my exams are papers. Yes, I just said that I like to write papers. It may be strange, but I love the fact that in an essay there is no absolute right or wrong answer. There is always the opportunity to defend your thoughts in an essay. My roommate is a Biology/Math major. She studies all of the time. I have gone to bed so many times with the light shining brightly because she has a test the next day. I have truly learned the significance of hard work since I began at Judson. My two years in Community College were not as difficult as my time at Judson.  But college is about education, right? I mean it is fun, but I am here to learn.

I was training for my 10k run until last week. One day, I was running and I decided to go further than normal. Toward the end of the run, my foot began to hurt. I finished the run but my arch hurts now. I took a break from training and I am going to the doctor on Monday. I’ll let you know how that goes. I need to get back to training soon. I was actually beginning to look forward to my runs. Before I began this training, I loathed running.

I am not looking forward to my drive home this weekend but I am excited to see my family. One of these days, I am going to stay on campus for a normal weekend. There isn’t much to do in Marion, but we create our own fun. I heard that a few weekends ago my roommate and her big sister learned the “Thriller Dance.” They spent a few hours in the student union, in the middle of Saturday night. Small towns are only dull if you allow them to be.

I think hockey practice starts soon. Hockey Day is Nov 7th. That’s a month away. I can’t wait. I LOVE HOCKEY!
