I had the opportunity to attend the Judson vs. MMI soccer game today at MMI. I was so proud of the Lady Eagles. They beat MMI 7-1. The girls hustled really hard and played extremely well as a team. I hate to say it but, I was surprised that soccer is such a contact sport. I went to a few games last year, and I even played one year when I was young, but when I saw Judson and MMI playing today I realized those girls were not kidding. I know that they have been working hard and preparing for this season, I was so proud of them! Great JOB Ladies! You are tough! Keep up the amazing work!

Watching them today, made me look forward to Hockey Day. Hockey Day is my favorite tradition of the year. It is a day of intramural hockey games and other traditions. Last year, I was a member of the Junior/Frosh (Freshmen, Sophomore) field hockey team. We played the Senior class, and a group of us joined together to play in an all-star game against the alumni. Field Hockey is FIERCE! I can remember the bruises that I got last year, but they were all worth it!  Watching the intensity of the soccer game today made me want to be on the hockey field again. I can not wait until that time comes this year. I will be a member of the senior team this year! The Junior/Frosh team better watch out!

The Judson Volleyball Team played Concordia on Monday night. Judson won! I was not able to make it to the game, but I was happy to hear that the ladies won! It seems that Judson athletics are off to a fantastic start!

    Well Homework Beckons!

Rose Sunday was amazing. This is a day when the students and faculty of Judson attend church together at Siloam Baptist Church. I spent the beginning of my morning taking pictures with my Judson little sisters. One of my favorite traditions at Judson is Big/Little Sis. During freshman year, students choose a big sister from the class ahead of them. I have three little sisters. When I arrived at Judson in my Junior year of college, I choose to join the Junior/Soph class. I had the opportunity to get a big sister and little sisters in the same year.  Junior/Sophs are known as sophomores at other colleges, but at Judson some students graduate in three years. Therefore, in the third year of college students at Judson are considered seniors in social standing. I am now in my fourth year of college, a Senior in academic and social standing.  After pictures with my little sisters it was time to take pictures with the senior class. Each senior wore her cap and gown and a red rose pinned to her gown. Seniors sang songs to the Junior/Soph class before everyone lined up to walk to the church.

After walking between the Ivy Chains, the Senior class lead the underclassmen to Siloam Baptist church for Sunday morning worship service. Dr. Potts delivered a message and spoke a bit about Judson history. It was interesting to hear about some of the rules that young ladies had to follow way back when. In the 1800s, Judson girls could not receive letters addressed to them. All letters had to be addressed to the principal.

We had a BBQ Sunday night hosted by Siloam Baptist Church. This event was put on for both Judson College and Marion Military Institute.  It was nice to see friends I made at Siloam last year. I can't wait for Wednesday Night Services to begin again at Siloam.

After a few hours of rest along with making signs and dripping bottles (only seniors drip bottles) for my little sisters, I went to song practice for Rose Sunday Serenade. The Sunday after major events on campus, seniors serenade the underclassmen. The seniors in their cap and gowns stand on the steps in Jewett Hall and sing to their little sisters and the freshmen sitting on blankets. This was my first serenade as a senior. I was nervous to sing "senior songs," that I could not sing as a Junior/Soph. The serenade went well. I accidently dripped hot candle wax on one of my friends during one of the songs, but she is ok!  Sorry Erica! We will be Serenade buddies forever now!

It was exciting to be apart of Rose Sunday as a Senior!  Now on to the second week of classes!

Wow it was one Amazing week!

I decided that I would move to Judson on my own without the help of my parents. So, Tuesday I loaded up my car and made the three hour drive to Judson College. When I was about thirty miles away from the school, I became very excited. I kept thinking over and over again, “I’m a senior in college. I am almost finished with my time at Judson. I can’t believe that this is my fourth year of college.” Even though it is only my second year at Judson, I have grown extremely attached to this school.  The excitement built until I reached JC. Once I arrived on campus, I began the list of things that are necessary to validate my enrollment and to move into my room. After an hour, I was ready to unload my car. I could not wait to be done with that and to begin looking for my friends. I had not seen some of them since April. Judson is such a small school; the women that attend here all become extremely close. Last year I heard the phrase, “Who needs sorority when you have sisterhood,” over and over again. I missed my Judson sisters over the summer. It was so wonderful to catch up with them Tuesday night!

Classes began on Wednesday. I was a little nervous, but ready to see my instructors.  I have many of the same teachers that I had last year. One of the best parts about going to a small school is that students can get to know their teachers. I know that if I ever need anything, I can ask them for help. At other colleges and universities it is more difficult to form the relationships that we can build at Judson. On Mondays and Wednesdays, I have two education classes and a writing class.  It was good to get back into the swing of things.

Thursday, I began my morning with Spanish at Marion Military Institute. If Judson does not offer a course, students can often take the course at MMI. I also attended a Mythology and British Literature classes on Thursday. I absolutely love being an Education/Language Arts Major. I love to learn about literature!

On Friday, I did not have any classes. In the morning, I had an education meeting concerning the upcoming year. Normally, I will do field observation on Fridays in a local high school.

I believe that I will enjoy each and every one of my classes this semester! I know that they will be hard, but I can not wait to dive into them and get busy! That is all for now! I have Homework to reckon with!

Education classes, relationships, tennis, traditions, campus activities, and so much more how will I ever keep up?

My name is Jodie Breedlove, and I am twenty one years old. Robertsdale, Alabama is my home town and I am a senior here at Judson College.  I am a transfer student from Faulkner State College, a community college near my hometown.

It was a long road for me to make it to Judson but finally everything fell into place for me to transfer my junior year. Now I have been here a year, and I love it. My major is Secondary Education/ Language Arts. When I complete my bachelor’s degree here at Judson, I plan to continue in school to become an English as a Second Language teacher.

When I transferred here last year my best friend came along with me. Her name is Anna and we are roommates for the second year in a row. She is like a sister to me; I have known her since birth. It was great to already have a friend here when I arrived at Judson. We are also both members of the Judson Tennis team.

I love campus life at Judson, and I enjoy being involved in campus activities.  I am the President of Kappa Delta Epsilon (education honor society), and a member of Sigma Tau Delta (English honor society). I learned soon after my arrival at Judson that the best way to meet people and to make friends is to get involved in campus activities. We are always busy here with traditions, classes, homework, and spending time just hanging out with our friends. Join me as I embark on my senior year at Judson. Between an overload of 19 hours of classes, senior traditions, keeping up with my activities on campus, tennis, and maintaining friendships and relationships back home, this should be one interesting year.
