NO!

To Mountainbrook!

Two weeks ago, the Education Department took a four day field trip to Mountainbrook.

Why?

To broaden our horizon, to make us more technologically savvy, to rub elbows with the elite of educators?

ALL OF THE ABOVE!

AND, it fulfilled a requirement for our EDU 311 Instructional Media class....

I will give you until just after 8:00am (by the time I get here, go get my coffee, and turn on my computer) to post your two blogs...

A Bittersweet Goodbye to Campus Ministries.

We had our last Chapel for the year last Tuesday. This chapel is dedicated to Class Day, a day where new Class officers, SGA officers, and Honor Council members are sworn in.

Why was this day so bittersweet for me?

It's also the day where a new Campus Ministries President is appointed....

God Provides

The one thing that I absolutely hate to love in life is change. There is no way to prepare for it and, oh, how I wish I could. Why? Because the change that has happened this past month has almost been unbearable. It seems like every day something dramatically changed in my life that I was certainly not prepared for....

WOOHOO for January!

I thought 2010 was never going to end. It was a great year, but by Dec. 31 I was ready for something new. I don't know what it is about a new year. I guess it just gives everyone a chance to say, "This year is going to be different." For me, it has been so far and I am grateful, EXTREMELY grateful....

Isaiah 41:10 "Don't be afraid, for I am with you. Don't be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand."

As someone who is extremely afraid of heights, I always find it interesting that God is constantly trying to elevate His children to a newer height for the sole purpose of getting closer to Him....

A FEW LESSONS LEARNED FROM MY TIME AT JUDSON:

1. WORK ON TIME MANAGEMENT!

Yep, time. One of my friends told me a couple of months ago that I am a great scheduler, I just stink at executing what I schedule. Either something comes up and it detours me from my plans or when I am on schedule I don't want to do it. This is a problem and I am slowly learning to work on my time management....

Show and Tell

I have never liked show and tell. When I was in elementary school I could never find something cool enough to show to the class and I hated talking in front of my peers. My face would turn red and I would whisper until my teacher would tell me to speak up, which always made things worse. I eventually got over my shyness....

This was said as our very own Judson librarian floated solo down the Ocoee river last weekend. Yep, she not being able to swim, fell out. In the world of Education, every teacher candidate must complete a certain number of field experience hours to receive their degree. For Judson girls, the semester requirements are 42 hours. This is doable, sometimes it's fun. I love being in a classroom. I get to be around people all day. :) Why not like it?

It's August 15, a Sunday morning. All the 2010-2011 RAs have finished their exhausting week of training. In less than two hours bright-eyed freshmen will move in to their freshly cleaned dorms. Now, the RAs are sitting together with their coordinated shirts listening to Brother John's sermon at Siloam Baptist Church....

If you know me at all, then you know that eating is one of my favorite past times. So, when Brother John Nicholson of Siloam Baptist Church announced that there would be a fish fry at the Donovan's Sunday afternoon, you best believe that I was there to enjoy the food and fellowship.

I didn't know what to expect from this time of fellowship....

My favorite part of the event came during the eating. NO...not just because we were eating. We had the awesome privilege of eating with the Pastor, John Nicholson, and, his wife, Vanessa Nicholson.

Breathe Out

As the school year comes to an end, I find myself practicing breathing techniques more often. Even those Hee, Hee, Hoo breathing things they teach you at lamaze classes and I'm not even pregnant...(however, they do work).

Breathe In

Why am I breathing so heavily? In the next three weeks, I have to write two papers equivalent to 20 plus pages, take 5 finals, interview for an RA position for next year, start writing a grant for the GED program, get ready for missions in Perry County this summer, present 2 ten minute presentations, pretend like I know where my life is going, and the list can go on....

I'm excited because I know how well I enjoyed it last year, and this year, the topic is supposed to be even better. I know, I know it's not October, but, as usual, I am behind. At the beginning of the year, I decided to visit different churches in Marion just to see what they were like. I am not abandoning my Baptist heritage in anyway, I am just stretching my wings (I think this is what I am supposed to do in college?)....

Psalm 42:4 These things I remember

how I used to go with the multitude,
leading the procession to the house of God,
with shouts of joy and thanksgiving
       among the festive throng....

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun…

And, girl, did we!

I love birthdays! I love birthdays even more when they are awesome friend's birthdays. Amanda Nolander's, one of my really good friends and assistant director during Pageant, birthday was on Halloween (cool, right?). For her birthday we decided to go to Birmingham to meet her mom, aunt, and another friend at PF Changs, a great Chinese restaurant at the Summit, and go shopping....

50 years from now…

I still, probably, won't be laughing.

Rule number 642; always, always, always ask fifteen people if doing something is a good idea because sometimes, personal judgment might not be the best. The reason I say this:

About a week before Pageant, the set committee needed a backdrop for the stage....

Pop-N-Night!

For those of you who don't know what this is, let me enlighten you. Every year, the Thursday night before Halloween, Judson girls dress up to go trick-or-treating. We don't roam the streets of Marion; instead, we visit the freshmen dorm called Kirtley. Each class is in charge of something....

...And I am sad.

Wow, it is October. School is going by so fast! It felt like just yesterday (well, more like six months ago) that Amanda Nolander and I were planning Pageant for this year. We planned for this awesome opportunity to bond as a sisterhood for countless hours since last April....

Word to the wise...Organize

Wow, has September been crazy. Because of CM meetings, music rehearsals, GED programs, 18 credit hours, SGA, RA, and Pageant my planner has become my best friend. When I started school this year, I knew August through early October would be insanely busy. Why? One word, Pageant. And, boy, have I latched on to my planner tightly....

Matthew 7:12 (New International Version)

12So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.

Last January, Kay Warren spoke at our Christian Emphasis Week that Judson College has every year to motivate us as Christians. She spoke about her life works and how, through Christ, it impacted many people....

Getting involved...Part II

I let my procrastination get the best of me and I didn't send out, or let Hannah help me send out, donation letters to churches for help. Fortunately, there is a wonderful organization called Faith Based Service and Learning here at Judson. We went to Susan Jones, the head over the department, told her our situation, and she agreed to buy TEN GED PREPARATION BOOKS for us....

Want to come meet your SGA leaders? Well, we will give you a chance. At the beginning of school every year, the SGA officers get together in a central location for the student body to ask them questions, give comments, or voice suggestions. This year the "Meet and Greet" will be in the foyers of Jewett at 5pm on September 2....

Hello Judson World, This is only the Introduction.

My name is Ryan Dowling and I am a sophomore at this lovely Christian establishment known as Judson College. In the past year that I have been here, I have met more people than I have in my life, been a part of more organizations than I thought humanly possible, and, by the awesome blessings of God, have grown more than I ever thought I could just by being a Judson Sister....
