Joe Jackson Frazer, Jr., son of Dr. Joe Jackson and the late Martha Louise Johnson Frazer, was born in Roanoke, Alabama. He was educated in the Hohenwald and Metropolitan Nashville, Tennessee public schools, graduating from Madison High School. He entered the United States naval Service as an enlisted person. He attended the Naval Nuclear Power School then located in Orlando, Florida. Injured in a car accident, Dr. Frazer then enrolled and attended Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama from which he received his B. A. degree in History. He then attended Auburn University; upon completion of his coursework, he returned to Nashville, Tennessee where he worked part-time jobs while completing his Master’s Thesis. After working for a law firm in Nashville, he attended the University of Memphis where he graduated with a Ph.D. in History with special emphasis in British History. His doctoral dissertation is entitled, “The Fourth Parliament of Elizabeth I: A Legislative Statistical History.”

Dr. Frazer began his teaching career while at the University of Memphis, where each regular semester, he taught classes in World and United States Histories. He taught at Lemoyne-Owen College as an adjunct teaching upper division courses in European history. Further, teaching included Southwest Tennessee Community College and Columbia State Community College in the subjects of United States History and World History. He came to Judson College in 2008.

Dr. Frazer has been a Christian since he joined the United Methodist Church at the age of twelve. Over the years he has been a youth leader, Eagle Scout, Lay Leader, Lay Speaker, Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent, as well as Church Historian. Dr. Frazer has been blessed with seeing God act on his life on a number of occasions including his coming to Judson College--ask him about it!

Dr. Frazer’s greatest treasure is his wife Sherie Smith Frazer. She is the daughter of the late John and Oma Smith of Palestine, Texas. They have been married for twenty-five years. Mrs. Frazer is an accountant with a specialty in Sales Tax Administration. They have one son, Joe Jackson Frazer, III., who attends the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
