MEET THE PROFESSOR: Originally from Birmingham, Ala., Jennifer J. Hoggle has been the Director of Equine Science at Judson College since 1996. A Judson girl herself, her students are allowed to simply call her "Jennifer."Interested in horses from the age of five, Mrs. Hoggle had always wanted a horse of her own and finally received her first one from her father at the age of 14. She immediately entered a showmanship class with hardly any experience, and, with the help of a friend giving her directions from outside the ring, she walked away with a first place ribbon and trophy. After that, horses and competition were in her blood. Mrs. Hoggle's goal for Judson as a college in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) is to progress by consistency, horsemanship, and communication. Since becoming director of Equine Science, she has exponentially increased the size of the program and expanded opportunities for her students through contacts, curriculum, and competition within the equine community. In 2010, she helped the college obtain a major in Equine Science and saw the completion of the college's new equine facility. Mrs. Hoggle is active within the community of Marion, including the Marion Rodeo, the Marion Perry County Riding Club and Miss Rodeo Alabama. The crown worn by Miss Rodeo Alabama was designed and patented by Hoggle's Tack and donated to the Miss Rodeo Alabama pageant in 1998. The crown has won photogenics at the Miss Rodeo America Pageant two times since. Mrs. Hoggle was also the first person from Perry County or Judson College to be an elected member of the Alabama Horse Council. Throughout her career with horses, Mrs. Hoggle has come to understand perseverance as a way of life. She is motivated by a constant drive for improvement in all of her equine undertakings. As the Director of Equine Science at Judson, she has worked hard to select good, sound horses for the stables, cultivate personal relationships with her students, keep creativity in classes, and expand extracurricular opportunities.
Besides horses, Mrs. Hoggle also enjoys shopping, spending time outdoors,
and eating chocolate. She is married to Robert Hoggle of Marion and has one
step-daughter, Katie, and far too many pets to count!
