 ACCOUNTING

Accounting is a growing field with opportunities available in areas such as public accounting, business and industry (corporate), government, not-for-profit, and education. You may decide to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) to open additional doors in this exciting field. This can lead to higher salary potential and improve promotion possibilities. Obtaining this sought after certification will increase the respect and credibility you will receive from business associates, clients, and employers.

At Judson College, you can prepare to sit for the CPA Exam by fulfilling all education qualifications required by The Alabama State Board of Public Accountancy. Although it is not specifically required to sit for the exam, we recommend that you earn a major in Business Administration with a minor in accounting to satisfy the education requirements of becoming a CPA. Our minor in accounting is also designed to prepare you for graduate study as you may choose to pursue that option.

As you prepare for your future career in accounting, you will realize how important work experience is to employers. With that in mind, you may pursue the opportunity to earn elective credit through internships in accounting as many of our former and current students have. They have interned in the fields of taxation, corporate, public, and not-for-profit accounting. These opportunities can provide you with valuable real-world experience that is sure to impress potential employers.

Consider setting your career goals in a field in which women are breaking through the glass ceiling. Consider a field in which the demand for competent employees is high, yet the supply of such employees is low. Join us at Judson College to pursue the opportunities accounting has to offer!
