The requirements for the major in English are 39 hours of required and elective hours in English above the 100 level. (Freshman Composition courses do not count toward either the major or minor in English.)

B. Two (2) of the following: 
    ENG 310 British Literature I (3 hours)
    ENG 311 British Literature II (3 hours)
    ENG 312 American Literature I (3 hours)
    ENG 313 American Literature II (3 hours)

C. One (1) of the following:
    ENG 304 Shakespeare (3 hours)
    ENG 308 Drama Survey (3 hours)
    ENG 309 Modern Drama (3 hours)

D. ENG 410 Literary Criticism (3 hours)

E. Two (2) of the following:
    ENG 302 Twentieth Century Literature (3 hours)
    ENG 316 Renaissance and Reformation Literature (3 hours)
    ENG 401 Nineteenth Century Literature (3 hours)

F. One (1) of the following: *
   ENG 213 Creative Writing: Fiction (3 hours)
   ENG 214 Creative Writing : Poetry Writing (3 hours)
   ENG 215 Autobiography Writing (3 hours)
   ENG 216 The Informal Essay (3 hours) 

*Students may elect to omit this part of the program and take three of the courses listed below.

The English minor consists of 24 hours above the freshman level (101-102).

   JRN 220 Newspaper Editing and Makeup (3 hours)
2. Six (6) hours of approved electives numbered 300 or above
3. Three (3) hours of approved electives
