9/10/2007 - Special Worship Event at Judson College

A unique worship team will be in Judson College chapel on Sept. 18. Dr. Jim Parker is pastor of the Ashby Baptist Church in Brierfield--one of the nine Alabama churches burned last year by arsonists. Parker was an outspoken advocate for leniency for the three arsonists during their sentencing earlier this year. He will share the pulpit with Mrs. Kim Cloyd of Pelham, the mother of one of the convicted arsonists. Cloyd and her husband, Michael, visited each of the nine congregations to apologize and pray with parishioners.

Parker is a graduate of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas and the Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary in Memphis. He taught for the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary’s Birmingham extension in Birmingham for the last four years. He has also taught Greek and Hebrew for Birmingham Theological Seminary and served as the Director of the Doctor of Ministry program there, and taught Hebrew and Old Testament studies at Beeson Divinity School at Samford University.

Parker recently joined the administration of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary where he is serving as Associate Vice President of Operations and will be a member of the teaching faculty. He and his wife, Donna, are currently relocating to New Orleans from their home in McCalla. They are parents of a daughter.

Kim Cloyd is a graduate of Samford University and an RN who has done a wide variety of nursing, including operating room, plastic surgery and hospice. Currently she works with her husband of 25 years, Dr. Michael Cloyd, an occupational physician for St.Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham. They are parents of Matthew and Meredith, a student at Samford.

The worship service begins at 11:10 in the Ramsey/McCrummen Chapel. The public is welcomed.
