12/17/2007 - Judson Alum receives health care award at Birmingham ceremony
Judson alum and current board of trustees member Dr. Judi Favor of Birmingham was awarded the "Health Care Heroes" award by "The Birmingham Business Journal" on Dec. 6. Favor was recognized earlier as a finalist in the physician provider category as determined by a panel of judges, and was named winner of the award at the awards luncheon held at the Harbert Center in Birmingham. Favor, a native of Hayneville, graduated from Judson in 1983 summa cum laude. She was a member of the tennis team, president of her senior class and received the Faulkner Award as best all-around student at her graduation. Favor earned her medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine and practices as an OB/GYN with Sparks and Favor P.C. of Birmingham. In an interview with the BBJ earlier this year, Favor said that she always wanted to help others and that she grew up looking to physicians as personal heroes, thus is was easy to decide what she wanted to do. Favor majored in chemistry at Judson and credits the faculty for helping her reach her career goal. "The professors took a very personalized caring attitude toward me and really helped me," she said. Favor completed her term as chair of the Judson board of trustees earlier this year but continues her service on the board and in the alumnae association.
