2/20/2008 - Equestrians take home wins at Georgia competition By Christa Fransen The Judson College Hunt Seat Equestrian Team competed in Athens, Ga. on Feb. 2-3. The Intercollegiate Horse Show Association competition included the challenge to draw and ride horses of all sizes with heights ranging from 16'3 hands to 13'0 hands. Team member Lauren Stephens of Mountain Brook placed fifth in "novice over fences" on Saturday and third in "novice over fences" on Sunday, earning the opportunity to qualify for the hunter zones and perhaps the IHSA national competition. Brittany Mathis of Gadsden placed fifth in "advanced walk-trot-canter" and Alyssa Hicks of Robstown, Texas placed fourth in "beginning walk-trot-canter." "We have a very driven team this year with riders willing to work hard to reach the goals they have set for themselves," said Judson equine director Jennifer Hoggle. "We look forward to our next show, and have no doubts that we'll do even better." Judson plans to participate in the IHSA show at Berry College in Rome, Ga. on March 1-2. |
