4/16/2008 - Crowell receives '2008 Alumnae Loyalty Award'

By Michael J. Brooks

Judson College awarded Jackie Brunson Crowell of Enterprise the "2008 Alumnae Loyalty Award" on April 5.

In her nomination letter, Daphne Rudicell Robinson of Spanish Fort noted "Mrs. Crowell is so infectious with her love for Judson that she makes all those with whom she comes in contact just as excited! One of her most endearing qualities is how she treats any fellow alumna she meets as her family. That is a wonderful statement of loyalty to Judson."

Jacquelin Jones grew up in Samson and graduated from Judson in 1958 with a bachelor of arts in music education. She was a member of the Apprentice Players, Alpha Psi Omega, the college choir and Delta Omicron music fraternity. She worked on the yearbook staff and served in the dorm council, Baptist Student Union and the president's council.

After graduation she taught in Montgomery County, Jefferson County and the Enterprise city school system.

She married Emmett Brunson in 1961 and they had twin sons, Emmett and Eric and later a daughter, Elizabeth. After her husband's death, she married another widower, Charles Crowell, in 1994.

Jackie Crowell later earned her masters of science degree in counseling and psychology from Troy University in 1988 and worked as patient representative at Flowers Hospital in Dothan.

She has been active in the First Baptist church of Enterprise for 45 years. Her service includes interim choir director, children's choir director, Vacation Bible School director, Sunday School teacher, chair of the finance committee and chair of two pastor search and two music search committees. Additionally she is a soloist in the church choir.

Crowell was named a Judson trustee in 1972 and chaired the board of trustees from 1996-1998--the second female to do so in college history.

“Loyalty, devotion, service and leadership are words that epitomize Jackie Brunson Crowell when it comes to Judson College," said Judson president Dr. David Potts. "She is most deserving of the recognition and her college is the better for her distinguished service.”
