9/20/2008 - Equestrians take home wins from first show By Joy Coppock Judson College equestrians began their competition year with a hunt seat show at the University of Georgia on Sept. 20. The hunt seat team includes Joy Coppock of Lowndesboro, Alyssa Hicks of Corpus Christi, Texas, Heather Hodge of Thomasville and Christina Wood of Fairhope.
Coppock, a third year senior at Judson studying English and journalism, has been riding on the Western equestrian team for three years, qualifying last year for the semi-finals in Syracuse, NY. The UGA show was her first attempt to compete in class three novice equitation on the flat. Hicks, a third year student majoring in religion, has been a member of both the Western and hunt seat team for two years. She competes in class 2A beginner walk, trot and canter. Hodge, a sophomore majoring in biology and psychology, is on both the western and hunt seat team. She also competes in class 2A beginner walk, trot and canter on the hunt seat team where she placed first at UGA. Wood, a freshman majoring in equine business, competes in class 2B advanced walk, trot and canter. She placed fifth in her first competition. Jennifer Hayes Wilson of Birmingham, a 2006 graduate, represented Judson in the alumni division. She competed in the alumni flat and jumping classes. During her Judson career Wilson was a member of both the western and hunt seat teams and qualified for nationals in the Western division. Both the Western and hunt seat teams have a show on Oct. 11- 12 in Georgia. (See Schedule) The Western show on Oct. 11 will be hosted by North Georgia College, and the Oct. 12 show hosted by Berry College will be both hunter and western. "We are so proud of our girls," said equine coach Jennifer Hoggle. "They did a good job and I trust will keep up the hard work!"
