11/15/2008 - Wilson to speak at Alabama Sierra Club Retreat
Judson College Biology Professor Dr. Thomas Wilson will be a keynote speaker at the Annual Alabama Sierra Club Retreat on Nov. 15, 2008.
This year's retreat will be at the Alabama 4-H Center located on Lay Lake, near the town of Columbiana. The Retreat begins on Nov. 14 and will conclude on Nov. 16. Speaker presentations have been organized around two concurrent themes: Alabama's Incredible Biodiversity and The Greening of Alabama. The former will emphasize Alabama's natural heritage of wildlife and the need to protect the natural habitats for these species, including both plants and animals. The latter will focus on the need to improve environmental awareness and conservation efforts in Alabama.
Wilson, who has taught Biology at Judson since 1972 and is a staunch defender of preserving nearby Perry Lakes Park, will be speaking on The Greening of Alabama theme. The topic of his discussion will be "Saving a Mixed Hardwood Floodplain Forest: The Fight for Perry Lakes Park," and he will begin at 10 a.m. on Nov. 15.
