10/23/2008 - Business club members learn by doing
By Michael J. Brooks Judson College's "Students in Free Enterprise" club has a number of projects scheduled for the fall semester. "We celebrate the first anniversary of our campus gift shop, 'The Ivy Vine,' on Oct. 28," said SIFE president Stephanie Alford of Helena. "This project has been very successful and we're excited about the new items we'll have for the Judson community, area residents and alumnae." Alford said club members will be training soon for tax preparation which they'll do in February. SIFE members have prepared tax returns for the past several years without charge for low income households in Perry County. This community service project doubles as a learning tool for accounting majors. And SIFE members plan presentations in local schools about free enterprise. "We'll talk about our experiences with the store and try to interest students in a business career," Alford said. "We're excited about the new year," she said. "It's been stressful so far, but we've enjoyed every minute of learning more about business and management." *Article courtesy of the Judson College Public Relations Department
