1/14/2009 - Judson named one of "America's Best Christian Colleges"

By Michael J. Brooks

Judson College has been named once again to "America's Best Christian Colleges" for the 2008/09 academic year

The private, Baptist-affiliated college is one of only 130 colleges and universities nationwide receiving the designation.

Institutional Research & Evaluation Inc. selected the schools from a pool of nearly 400 Christian higher education institutions. Selection was based on which provide the highest educational quality in a Christian environment, according to Lewis T. Lindsey Jr., president of  IR&E Inc.of Rome, Ga.

The independent research and consulting organization, which specializes in the recruiting and retention of students for institutions of higher education, compiled the annual listing based on analysis and review of its 18th Annual National College Survey.

To be considered for the list, an institution must be an accredited, four-year school that offers bachelor's degrees with full residential facilities and dining services. It must also have had an entering freshman class in Fall 2007 with a high school grade point average or SAT/ACT score at or above the national average for all freshmen entering Christian institutions of higher education. Further, it must be affiliated with a recognized Christian denomination or be an interdenominational institution that incorporates Christian principles into its curriculum or environment.

Other Alabama schools chosen for the honor were the University of Mobile, Huntingdon College, Samford University and Spring Hill College.
