3/19/2009 - Equestrians third in the Region for IHSA Show year

The Judson equestrian team has won third place overall in their region for the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association show year.
The final IHSA competition of the season took place at Berry College in Rome, Ga. on Feb. 28. Winners from the first show day and their awards include:
- Joy Coppock, sixth place in "Novice on the Flat" in the hunt seat competition
- Jessica Elmore, reserve in "Novice Over Fences"
- Alyssa Hicks, second place in "Advanced Walk/Trot/Canter"
- Heather Hodge, fifth place in "Beginner Walk/Trot/Canter."
Also,
- Coppock won first place in both "Reining Horsemanship" and "Open Western Horsemanship" in the Western show, therefore making her the high point rider for the day.
- Hicks won second in "Intermediate II Western Horsemanship."
- Samantha Marcella placed fourth in "Intermediate II Western Horsemanship."
- Elmore and Hodge both placed sixth in "Intermediate II Western Horsemanship."
- Sarah Dunn placed third in "Beginner Western Horsemanship."
On day two at Berry, Coppock, Marcella and Candyce Gibbs participated in Western regionals at Berry. Wins included:
- Coppock, fourth place in both "Reining Horsemanship" and "Open Western Horsemanship."
- Marcella, second place in "Beginner Western Horsemanship"
- Gibbs, fourth place in "Beginner Western Horsemanship."
Marcella qualified for the semi-finals to be held in Finlay, Ohio on March 21.
Coppock won reserve High Point Rider for the 2008-2009 show year.
"It was a successful weekend all in all," said equine coach Jennifer Hoggle. "We're excited about what the future holds for the Judson equestrian team."
