9/3/2009 - Volleyball team takes time out for Nursing Home fun By Bill Mathews Members of Judson College's volleyball team made a guest appearance at the Perry County Nursing Home to entertain residents on Sept. 3. The team erected a volleyball net on the back lawn of the nursing home as their playing field. PCNH residents gathered under a covered patio overlooking the playing field to watch the game.
Team member Elisabeth Hinton, a junior from Greensboro, was one of the organizers of the visit. She said the team is looking for opportunities to interact with the community. PCNH assistant administrator Sharon Phillips and social services assistant Niki Royster worked with the team to arrange a time when the residents and players could meet, working around classes for the Judson players and dinner and bingo at the nursing home. The Judson team is composed of students from Alabama and Mississippi. It plays against colleges and universities in Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, Tennessee, Florida and Louisiana. * Article courtesy of the Judson College Public Relations Department. About 14 students divided themselves into two groups for play. The boundaries of the playing field were unmarked, and there were no umpires or referees, so the game was low key and low pressure. However, there was plenty of enthusiasm, many unusual antics and much fun for the amusement of the spectators.
