Judson Student Completes Summer Work at Camp Chandler

Photo cut line: Judson College student Sylvia Pitts of Valley Grande worked this summer as the director of the horseback program at the Montgomery YMCA's Camp Chandler in Wetumpka. Camp Chandler is a summer camp for kids 5-14 years old. She cared for eight horses and did barn, fence and trail maintenance. She also gave riding lessons and guided trail rides for the campers and other groups including Operation Purple, the Sheriff's Ranch, local Girl Scout groups and several church groups. Pitts is the daughter of Emmett and Chrissy Pitts.


‘Old Howard 100' Bike Ride Donates to Perry County's ‘Sowing Seeds of Hope'

Photo cutline: Samford University representatives traveled to Perry County last Wednesday to present a check to the Sowing Seeds of Hope interfaith initiative from the "Old Howard 100" bicycle ride last spring. Proceeds from the ride amounted to $3460. Shown at the ceremony are (from left) Dr. Charles Sands, dean of Samford's McWhorter School of Pharmacy; Dr. Ken Kirby of Samford's Adult Degree program; SSOH executive director Frances Ford of Marion and Dr. Rosemary Fisk, professor of English and associate dean of Samford's Howard College of Arts and Sciences. Fisk is the co-founder of the "Old Howard 100" bike ride. The sixth annual Old Howard ride is scheduled for April 16, 2011.
