10/13/2010 - Equestrian team brings home first, second place ribbons

The Judson College Equestrian Western Team competed at their first set of shows for the new season Oct.9th.  The shows were hosted by North Georgia College and State University and were in Dahlonega , Ga.

During the first show, Heather Hodge of Thomasville placed second in both reining and open - her first time competing at this level.  She also was part of a three-way tie for high-point rider.  Jordyn Blackwell of Grand Bay placed second in advanced. Andrea Luckie of Alexander City placed reserve in novice.  Jana Davenport of Jemison placed fifth and Lindy Cowart of Brandon, MS placed sixth in beginner.

In the second show, Hodge placed second in reining and fourth in open.  She was again part of a three-way tie for reserve high point rider.  Blackwell placed third in advanced.  Samantha Marcella of Cullman placed third and Luckie placed reserve in novice.  Corey Finlay of Oxford placed first in intermediate.  Brandy Colburn of Brent placed fourth, Davenport place fifth and Cowart placed reserve in beginner.

Colburn and Davenport were competing in their first IHSA show and proved to be very successful.            

Overall the Judson team placed fourth in the first show and third in the second show against Berry College , Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech), Lander University and North Georgia College and State University.

The next competition will be Oct. 23-24 at Berry College in Rome , Ga. and will feature both western and hunt seat competitions.
