11/15/2010 - Judson to offer seminar on Inclusive Classroom Teaching
Judson College professor of education Dr. Judy Blanton will lead a seminar on Nov. 15 entitled, "Using Study Skills in an Inclusive Classroom." "Inclusion refers to the practice of educating students with disabilities with their non-disabled peers in the regular classroom," Blanton explained. "While the special education teacher lends support, the primary responsibility rests with the regular classroom teacher." The seminar will demonstrate how study skills can make learning easier, add fun to the learning of difficult lists of facts and improve the ability to retrieve information needed during lectures, reading assignments and tests. Teachers of students in elementary or high schools are invited, along with parents and education students. Teachers may earn two hours of professional development credit. The seminar will begin at 3:30 p.m. and will convene in the Katie Arnold Smith Board Room in Jewett Hall. There is no charge for the seminar, but pre-registration is required. Those planning to attend should contact teacher education certification officer Jean Massey at 334.683.5143 or by e-mail at jmassey@judson.edu. *Article courtesy of the Judson College Public Relations Department.
