11/2/2010 - JC Employees honored on service anniversaries By Michael J. Brooks Judson College held its annual Employee Recognition Convocation on Nov. 2. President David Potts presided and presented gifts to honorees. 'This is always a special time for me when we express gratitude to our employees," Potts said. "I've done this for 20 years and I'm happy to honor those who labor here in the cause of Christian higher education especially for women." Potts suggested a good thematic scriptural reference is Ecclesiastes 9:10 which reads, "Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might . . . ."
Potts noted that the college had received a number of special honors during the downturn in the nation's economic life, including recognitions by the Carnegie Foundation, the President's Commission and the "U.S. News & World Report" listing of top liberal arts colleges as determined by guidance counselors in USN's "top high schools" survey. "Faculty, staff and administration here believe that the light of Christ should burn bright," Potts said. Dr. Harold Arnold was a five year honoree and Becky Shipman was a ten year honoree. Fifteen year honorees included Ricky Clements, Anthony Miree, George Washburn and Leah Washburn. Dr. Judy Blanton and Michelle Hughey were 20 year honorees. Dr. Ray Price was honored for 25 years of service and 30 year honorees included Hosea Rutledge, Alleana Smith and Iona Williams. Following the convocation Potts hosted a luncheon for honorees and their families. * Photo cutline: Honorees included (front row, from left) Dr. Ray Price, Iona Williams, Dr. George Washburn, Leah Washburn, Alleana Smith, Michelle Hughey and Dr. David Potts and (back row, from left) Ricky Clements, Dr. Judy Blanton, Dr. Harold Arnold and Becky Shipman. "Our faculty and staff have done good in teaching and working in a very remarkable time," he said. "We've come through what has been called The Great Recession and our employees have sacrificed."
