2/4/2011 - Young to do "Meet the Author" event in Birmingham

Billie Jean Young will read from and sign copies of her new book, "Family Secrets," on Feb. 4 at 4 p.m. at the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute Bookstore at 520 Sixteenth Street North in Birmingham.

Young is a 1974 graduate of Judson College where she serves as artist-in residence in theatre. She is a published author, a poet, playwright and chronicler of Blackbelt history and the history of black people everywhere. She was featured in the 20ll AT&T- sponsored Alabama African American history calendar which is produced in partnership with the Alabama State Department of Education, and is a supplement to the social studies curriculum for grades 4-12 in Alabama public schools.

Her website is www.billiejeanyoung.org.

Published last December by Westry Wingate Press, "Family Secrets" reads like a novel but is actually a true story. Only names of people and places have been changed. It is a story of faith, hope, love and friendship that deals with the serious subject of child abuse.

Young is the author of two other books, "Fear Not the Fall" and "Now How Do You Do? A Memoir." All three books will be available for purchase.
