9/12/2011 - Dr. James Earl Massey Inaugurates Judson College Chapel in New Academic Year
Dr. James Earl Massey of Greensboro made his 10th consecutive annual visit to Judson College chapel on Sept. 6. Massey was founding pastor of the Metropolitan Church of God in Detroit and served as radio preacher for the Church of God's "Christian Brotherhood Hour" for five years. He taught at Anderson University and at Tuskegee University before becoming adjunct professor of preaching at the Beeson Divinity School of Samford University. Massey's message described the Bible's relevance for today's living; God's Word explains our natural and social surroundings, situating them in a God-conscious frame of reference, and it describes and has power to correct our relationships to God and to each other. Judson's FAITH Ensemble sang two selections for the service: "O How Happy are They" from Melodious Accord, a collection of hymns from The Sacred Harp arranged by Alice Parker and Dr. Judy Ransom (Judson choral director), and "God, Be in My Head," arranged by Philip Wilby and Dr. Judy Ransom. The second selection's text especially complemented Massey's message:
God be in my head, and in my
understanding;
Dr. Stacey Parham, Assistant English Professor, also spoke briefly about the events of September 11, 2001, which approached its tenth anniversary at Tuesday's meeting.
