1/31/2012 - ‘Angel Tree’ founder to speak in Judson College Chapel service today

Mary Kay Beard, a former inmate and founder of"Angel Tree," will make her seventh visit to Judson College chapel onJan. 31 at 11 a.m.

In1972, Beard was fleeing from the law in four states. There was an underworldcontract on her life, and her name was on the FBI “Most Wanted List.” Apprehendedand convicted of armed robbery and grand larceny, she received a sentence oftwenty-one years and a day in the Alabama State Prison For Women.

Today,Beard is a college graduate with considerable experience in a variety of areas.She is again serving as an area director of Prison Fellowship (theministry founded by Charles W. Colson). During her previousservice as an area director of Prison Fellowship for Alabama, Beardfounded Angel Tree. 

TodayAngel Tree serves the children and families of inmates in all 50 states and 45countries around the world.

Beard'sstory is told in her autobiography, Rogue Angel, published in 2005.

Presentlyshe lives in Birmingham where she and her late husband founded EncouragerMinistries.

Theevent will be in the Ramsay-McCrummen Chapel on the Judson campus. The publicis welcomed.
