2/10/2012 - Judson College Senior Receives Therapeutic Riding Certification
Judson College senior Rebekah Lowrey of Saraland has been certified as a level one instructor by the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship, International. This certification will allow her to pursue a career as a therapeutic equine riding instructor. According to Judson equine coach Jennifer Hoggle, Lowrey completed introduction and advanced therapeutic riding courses at the college, and attended a workshop and completed horsemanship testing at the Montgomery Area Non-Traditional Equestrian facility last April. The MANE course included therapeutic riding, equitation, complete knowledge of equine husbandry, knowledge of standards and procedures as well as a thorough understanding of physical and cognitive disabilities. Applicants spend 25 hours with a mentor learning to teach riding to those with physical and cognitive disabilities. Lowrey is the daughter of Tommy and Alisa Lowrey of Saraland and a 2008 graduate of Satsuma High School. |
