Citronelle’s Erin Napp, who has received national recognition for her role in helping spur the construction of a LifeFlight helipad near the intersection of Fifth and State streets, was presented a proclamation by the Citronelle City Council at its Dec. 20 meeting honoring her contributions to the project.

Mayor Loretta Presnell said Napp, now a junior at Judson College, and other young women like her offer a bright future for Citronelle and the country.

“I have watched Erin grow up and I am so proud of the young woman that she has become,” Presnell said. “I think she has become a great role model for a lot of young people in the fact that she took on a project for Girl Scouts that could very well be the difference in someone’s life or death. As the mayor of Citronelle, I am proud to have her working with us on these type projects, and with young people like her working together, I think we have an even brighter future.”

Napp was honored in Houston in November as one of only 10 people named a National Young Woman of Distinction. The graduate of Citronelle High School and the daughter of Ronnie and Terri Napp received that award for her Girl Scouts project “Life’s Landing Pad.”

The genesis of the project was the death of family friend Kim Silcox from a massive heart attack in 2007. “The rescue helicopter could not land because of inclement weather,” Napp said during the Houston ceremony. “The amount of time it took to transport her by ambulance nearly 40 miles to the nearest hospital cost her life.”

“Life’s Landing Pad” project was launched as a result. Napp raised awareness of the problem, helped raise money, persuaded companies to donate equipment and labor, and convinced the city to donate property for the landing pad.
