Judson College student athletes combine competition and service

The Judson College Eagles softball team finished third in the NCCAA South Region Tournament hosted by Shorter College in Rome, Ga, May 6-7.  The Judson team joined other participating teams to donate softball gear to support a summer sports ministry in Western Africa.  In June, David Roland, campus minister at Shorter University, will take a summer mission team to Ghana, and one of his team’s projects will be to introduce the game of softball to children at area schools using the donated gear.  Said Eagles catcher and team captain Teryn Dennis (Class of ‘14), “Before we left for the tournament, I cleaned the equipment we were donating, and all I could think about was how we take the little things for granted. Although I couldn’t experience it first hand, I felt like I was a part of something huge. It’s amazing to know that the children we’re sending our gear to will get to learn the sport we love.”  In addition to donating bats, catching equipment, and helmets, the Judson Eagles also sent school supplies and Judson t-shirts to the Ghanaian children Roland’s team will serve.
