Judson to offer wellness initiatives through Scale Back Alabama

Judson College will once again serve as a public site for Scale Back Alabama, a free statewide weight-loss program designed to encourage Alabamians to get healthy and to have fun while doing it. This is the seventh consecutive year that Judson has served as a public site, allowing local community members can monitor their weekly weight loss on-site, receive free coaching and encouragement from Judson’s Wellness Center staff, and take advantage of special wellness programs that take place during Scale Back. Judson is the only public site for Scale Back Alabama in Perry County.

Assistant Vice President for Athletics Marsha Ford serves as Judson’s Scale Back Site Coordinator. “We are excited for this year’s campaign,” said Ford. “Last year, we had 72 total participants at our site that lost a total of 201 pounds. We have some new ideas that we hope will help this year’s participants achieve their ten-week weight loss and wellness goals. Our main goal as a Scale Back site is always to encourage our campus and community to get moving and have fun.”

In addition to the weekly weigh-in days to help participants monitor their progress, Ford hopes to add a walking group, a Zumba class, and team sports to the Scale Back calendar this year. Cynthia White, Judson’s basketball and volleyball coach, will also be offering a bi-weekly nutrition lunch and learn session, beginning on February 4. Each lunch and learn session will be held in the Sara Hunt Christenberry Dining Hall on Judson’s campus and will be open to the public.

This year’s weigh-in week for Scale Back Alabama is January 19-25. Weigh-out week is scheduled for April 6-12. A special celebration for campus and community Scale Back participants will take place during weigh-out week.
