Judson Singers to perform at Alabama Collegiate Choral Festival
The Judson College Music Department is proud to announce that its 40-member Judson Singers choir will participate in the 2015 Alabama ACDA Collegiate Choral Festival on Thursday, November 5, at First Baptist Church of Montgomery.
The Judson Singers will perform under the leadership of Dr. Camilla J. Horne, Head of the Judson College Music Department and choral director, and will be accompanied by Leah Washburn. Horne expressed her excitement about Judson’s participation in the festival: “I am extremely proud of the Judson Singers; the ACDA Collegiate Choral Festival is an excellent opportunity for Judson students to make connections with the wider musical community in the state of Alabama.”
The Collegiate Choral Festival is an annual, non-competitive choral festival endorsed by the Alabama American Choral Directors Association (ACDA). Choirs representing two and four year colleges from across the state gather to perform concert literature for each other and enjoy opportunities to work with nationally recognized guest clinicians. In addition to Judson College, there are twelve other area college choral ensembles participating in this year’s festival, including: Tuskegee University, Huntingdon College, Alabama State University, Jefferson State Community College, Shelton State Community College, Alabama A & M University, Northeast Alabama Community College, University of South Alabama, Snead State Community College, Auburn University, Faulkner University, and Oakwood University.
Each participating choir will have 20 minutes onstage to perform its chosen literature, followed by a 20 minute offstage clinic with Dr. Jefferson Johnson, Director of Choral Activities at the University of Kentucky, Dr. Donald Trott, Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities at the University of Mississippi, or Dr. Deanna Joseph, Assistant Professor and Director of Choral Activities at the Georgia State University School of Music.
