Opera Workshop class to present concert Dec. 5

On Tuesday, December 5 at 7:00 pm in the Alumnae Auditorium, the Music Department of Judson College will present the students of the Opera Workshop class in concert. The performance is free and open to the public.

Junior Lorna Wikle, senior Sarah Green, and senior Ana Williams are members of this year’s Opera Workshop class under the direction of Dr. Sadie Goodman. The students have prepared multiple scenes from the opera and musical theatre repertoire for this performance. Also performing will be Dr. Sadie Goodman, Dr. Cindy St. Clair, Mrs. Marsha Harrow, Dr. Murphy Maddox and Mr. Miles Jenkins. Dr. Stacey Parham, Head of the Fine Arts and Humanities Division, will act as host for the evening’s performance.

The concert will include the opening scene from Mozart’s The Magic Flute (sung in German with English supertitles), “Bless our Show” from Alan Menken’s musical Sister Act, “You Could Drive a Person Crazy” from Stephen Sondheim’s musical Company, “Just Around the Corner” from Andrew Lippa’s musical The Addams Family, “One Star” from Ricky Ian Gordon’s opera The Grapes of Wrath, “Agony” from Stephen Sondheim’s musical Into the Woods, and “I Don’t Know His Name” from Jerry Bock’s musical She Loves Me.

Dr. Cindy St. Clair, Head of the Music Department, and Mrs. Marsha Harrow will accompany various scenes on the piano. Baritone Dr. Murphy Maddox, a full-time dentist and graduate of Samford University and the University of Alabama at Birmingham, will sing as a guest artist in two scenes. Tenor Mr. Miles Jenkins will sing as a guest artist in two scenes. He will graduate from the University of Montevallo in Spring 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in music and a bachelor’s degree in music education. Mr. Jenkins is currently auditioning for graduate schools in music.
