Phenix City minister wins 55th Minister’s Golf Tournament

Baptist ministers from across the state gathered in Marion, Ala., May 15-16 for Judson College’s 55th annual Ministers’ Golf Tournament. Players enjoyed the two-day tournament on the Marion Military Institute golf course, as well as lodging and the tournament’s traditional Monday night steak dinner at Judson College.

Overall winners of the tournament were honored at a concluding luncheon at Judson on Tuesday. First place went to Charles Keown, Minister of Music and Senior Adults at Lakewood Baptist Church in Phenix City, Ala.  Second place winner was Phillip Twilley, Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church Double Springs in Double Springs, Ala.  Winner of the Over 70 division was Norman Wood, retired Alabama minister and member of First Baptist Church of Bradenton, Fla.

The Ministers’ Golf Committee has enjoyed the leadership of chairman David Byrd, pastor of Northside Baptist Church in Jasper, for the last 30 years. Byrd, who is also a member of the Judson College Board of Trustees, announced his decision to step down as chair of the committee. The committee and Judson are grateful for Byrd’s faithful leadership and support of the tournament and the College. Ed Cruce of Fairfield Highlands Baptist Church in Midfield, Ala., will serve as the committee’s new chairman, and new committee member is Mark Smith, pastor of First Baptist Church in Remlap, Ala.
