Dr. Billie Jean Young performs This Little Light…

On September 19, Dr. Billie Jean Young gave a special performance of her two-act, one-woman play Fannie Lou Hamer: This Little Light… in celebration of the intersection of the 175th anniversary of Judson College and the 50th anniversary of the American Civil Rights Movement.

They play depicts the life of Fannie Lou Hamer, a sharecropper in Mississippi who was drawn into the Civil Rights Movement by her desire to vote and to secure voting rights for the younger generation.  During the performance, Dr. Young transitions from herself to Mrs. Hamer in the 1960s. Dr. Young has now performed This Little Light… over 800 times on five continents.

Dr. Young serves as Artist-in-Residence and Associate Professor of Fine and Performing Arts at Judson College, her Alma Mater.
