JC Equestrian Team Shows at Berry College

Rome, Ga. – Berry College held its annual Fall Classic Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) shows October 26 and 27 at the Gunby Equestrian Center in Rome, Georgia. Teams competing in the shows were Berry College, Emory University, Georgia College and State University, Georgia State University, Georgia Institute of Technology, Judson College, Kennesaw State University, Mississippi State University, Mississippi College, University of Alabama, University of North Georgia, and University of Georgia.

In the first show’s huntseat Beginner Walk-Trot-Canter class, senior Rebecca Malphurs of Dothan placed fifth, and freshman Sheila Palmer of Hoover placed sixth. In the Advanced Equitation class, junior Kayla Syck of Deatsville placed fifth, sophomore Veronica Primavera of Deatsville and junior Megan Walker of Pell City both placed sixth, and senior Olivia Breimhorst of Warrior placed reserve. In the Novice Over Fences class, freshman Katie Brown of Muscle Shoals placed fourth in her first IHSA Over Fences competition.

In the first show’s Western class 13, senior Christina Duke of Vestavia placed fifth. Junior Rylee Parnell of Tibbie placed sixth in class 12b. In class 11, junior Brianne Culp of Bruinswick, Ohio, placed second, sophomore Caitlin Autrey of Selma placed third, and freshman Lindsay Tubbs of Brent placed fourth.

In the second show, only Judson’s western team competed. In class 14, sophomore Mary Kilpatrick of Dothan placed third. In class 13 Duke placed fourth, and Parnell placed reserve in class 12b.  In class 11, Autrey placed second, Culp placed third, and Tubbs placed fourth.

“The girls are constantly improving, and this hard work is paying off in the shows.  We’re looking forward to even better placings next month,” said Head Coach Jennifer Hoggle.

The teams will head back to Berry College on November 16 for their next show.
