Judson celebrates Christmas season with annual Tea & Vespers
The Judson College community celebrated Christmas last weekend with Christmas Tea and Vespers Dec.1.
The student Social Committee organized and decorated for the College’s annual semi-formal Christmas Tea event in the Gladys Hale Dunkin Parlors in Jewett Hall. Guests enjoyed refreshments, greeting faculty and College administrators, and a Christmas Step Sing.
Later that evening, the Music Department presented “Christmas Vespers: The King Returns”, a Christmas service featuring readings and musical selections, in Alumnae Auditorium. Featuring the contributions of students, faculty, and staff, the Vespers service traced the story of the long-promised Messiah, the King of Israel, from the Old Testament to the New Testament birth of Christ. Readings from The Psalms, Joel, and the Gospels of Luke and Matthew were arranged by Mrs. Stephanie Peek, Assistant Professor of Religion, and read by Peek and Dr. Stacey Parham, Associate Dean of the College.
The Judson Singers, FAITH Ensemble, and the Judson Ringers (Handbells) presented anthems such as “Angel Carol” and “Still, Still, Still” under the direction of Dr. Chris Brown, Director of Ensembles, and with accompaniment by Marsha Harrow (piano) and Angela Dennison, Assistant Professor of Social Work (violin).
Dr. Jessica Spafford, soprano and Assistant Professor of Music, and Dr. Cindy St. Clair, pianist and Assistant Professor of Music presented beautiful offerings of “O Holy Night” and Handel’s “Rejoice Greatly”.
Congregational singing punctuated the service and was led by Leah Washburn, Enrollment Coordinator for Distance Learning.
The Judson community is grateful for the contributions and efforts of so many who made Vespers such a meaningful service. For more program information, contact Dr. Cindy St. Clair, Head of the Music Department, at 334.683.5187.
