Judson hosts SOAR event March 4
Students who will join the Judson community this fall had their first opportunity to attend Student Orientation, Advising, and Registration (SOAR) on March 4. Thirty-two members of Judson’s Class of 2024 learned more about life on campus as they met with current students, faculty members, and administrative personnel.
“SOAR is an exciting time on campus because new personalities are introduced to the Judson family,” said Vice President for Student Life Angie Teague. “Once a new student has determined that Judson is a good fit for her, SOAR allows her to begin to immerse herself in the Judson community.”
Students attended sessions on student life and financial aid, took placement tests, met with advisors, and registered for their first semester of classes.
Teague noted that family involvement is helpful in a successful transition to college life, so several SOAR sessions were for family members: “Just as importantly, parents have the opportunity to hear from our college President, as well as engage with representatives from student life, financial aid, and the business office to help ease anxiety related to their daughter’s transition to Judson,” Teague said.
Family members and guests attended a “Parent Survival 101” session and learned about Judson’s investment in students’ spiritual and emotional growth, as well as participated in Q&A sessions on financial aid paying for college.
Courtney Tindale, Administrative Assistant to the Dean of Students and SOAR coordinator, says that she enjoys watching the interactions of new students with staff, faculty, and current students at SOAR. “Even though they may not know it yet, these new students are meeting some of their future roommates, teammates, classmates, and best friends for the very first time. I am happy that I get to help our newest students begin finding their place in their new ‘home away from home’.”
The next SOAR event for incoming students is on May 12. For more information, contact a member of the Student Services staff at 334-683-5108 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
